  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Chaos & Coffee -- Naive or brave? You be the judge. : Being completely new to this author, I wasn't really sure what to expect. I got more than I bargained for. She holds nothing back. Literally. I've read books that claim to be open but she blew the door off privacy and secrets and cast out all of those things that we all think onto paper and called it a book. She shies away from nothing! • 5.0 out of 5 stars from David Bluvband -- Read this book! : Sophie Santos is one of funniest comics working today and her book is a MUST read! ( Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2021 )
  • from Richard P. -- TOP 1000 REVIEWERVINE VOICE : Never Quite Becomes the Book It Should Be But Still Meaningful and Enjoyable ( 3.0 out of 5 stars )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from cswizzle -- Real : She didn’t hold back. Thoroughly entertaining and a relatable telling. It’s good to see that she fully recognizes she didn’t make great choices or treat people well in some parts of her life. We are all flawed and it makes her story even more relatable ( Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2021 )
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars from Timothy J Chisholm -- It's not you It's me.. : I just couldn't get into this one. Started scan reading after chapter one and downhill from there for me. Didn't get very far at all before I decided not to use any more of my energy on it. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 22, 2021 )
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from The Paragon -- Lacking something : It’s always a bit strange reading the autobiography of a person you don’t know. Not that I’m total gal pals with Anjelica Huston, but I feel like I already had an idea of her and her career before I started reading the second instalment of her memoirs. Where, with Sophie Santos, a young, funny, musical artiste, I couldn’t have picked her out of a lineup before I read this book. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 17, 2021 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Rebecca B -- Hilarious and honest - a great millennial memoir : Sophie Santos is absolutely hilarious. She takes the reader on a journey through her childhood and into her twenties, in a number of different schools and cities as she moved around with her family (her dad was in the military), before finally settling in Alabama. Not only navigating social hierarchies, Sophie also learns more about her cultural, and sexual identity.  ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 12, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from A. ROGERS -- Interesting life : Sophie Santos was unknown to me, her being an American comedian and writer so I didn't know what to expect from this auto biography. I chose it from my choices of Amazon free monthly kindle books. She is a lesbian so it is about her realisation of that and also her path to comedy writing and performing but it starts from her childhood. Some biographies are quite frankly dull but this isn't as her life has been eventful and interesting. It is a very honest account of her life so far, warts and all. She admits to being far from perfect and has been quite selfish and cruel at times. I really enjoyed reading it and would recommend it. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 9, 2021 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from C -- Bloody funny : I knew nothing about Santos going in but this is a very good showing for her comedy chops: the book drips with sarcasm and absurd asides and weaponised cringe. It's a very "warts and all" memoir too so we get to see her talk about her most selfish adult acts and her navigating puberty (which gets terrifyingly blunt). I wanted to love "The One You Want to Marry," a well-intended semi-memoir that struggles to, rather ironically, find its voice amidst Santos's obvious efforts to be both honest and funny. Chapter 25 is a brutally honest chapter of "The One You Want to Marry" and I tip my hat to Santos for including it. So, I wish I could give The One You Want to Marry 3.5 stars, because she is a good writer. She definitely lends a unique perspective to handling her cultural identity crisis. Either way, congrats of the publication of this memoir. ...(And Other Identities I've Had): A Memoir b A hilarious and heartfelt memoir about finding your Growing up in 99.6 percent white communities, where girls had to learn to flash Vaseline-capped 5 b A hilarious and heartfelt memoir about finding your true voice by Sophie Santos, the fearless comic...
